Lapeer County Receives Stimulus Funds

The office of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) have allocated $198,012 to Lapeer County for the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program.  United Way's Housing Resource Center has been chosen as the lead agency to administer the funds.  MSHDA's Sally Harrison, director of homeless programs reports that "The President's stimulus package gives us a unique opportunity to transform lives and communities in Michigan.  This additional funding gives us an unprecedented opportunity to link just the right amount of assistance, targeted to the right people at the right time, to lift families out of poverty and help them find decent, safe affordable housing".

The funding is intended to transform the State's current system which is heavily dependent upon emergency shelters into a system based on homeless prevention and housing stability.  The Housing Resource Center will provide a single-point-of-entry for families seeking service, where their needs will be assessed and an individual housing plan will be created.  Human service agencies in the community will partner to provide, counseling, food, clothing, utility assistance and other needed services.

Underneath everything we are, underneath everything we do, we are all people. Connected, Interdependent, United. And when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. That's what it means to

LIVE UNITED.
