United Way of Lapeer County has the following positions available at this time. To apply, send a resume

HOUSING COORDINATOR
Part-time Contractual

Reports to: Executive Director

Purpose: The Housing Coordinator is responsible for operation of the Housing Resource Center to assist consumers with emergency housing services, rental and transitional housing options and to aid them in securing permanent, safe housing. The coordinator will also work with landlords and agency personnel to expand services based on a Housing First Model.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend training and workshops to maintain working knowledge of available housing programs and services

  • Inform the public and promote the services of the Housing Resource Center
  • Participate in community activities to assess needs
  • Work with consumers and service providers to coordinate services and maximize available resources
  • Research and secure funding to build Housing Resource Center services
  • Manage and implement the requirements of any grant awards.
  • Provide assistance and counseling for housing, budgeting, transportation, child care and other needs
  • Advocate on behalf of the consumer with landlords, utility companies, lenders and others concerning equal rights, fair housing and debt/loan issues
  • Recruit and sign landlords/management companies to a rapid re-housing memorandum of understanding that will include incentives to landlords to encourage participation
  • Creation of a Lapeer County Landlord List-serv
  • Conduct annual workshops for landlords with information about Michigan Housing Locator, Fair-Market Rents, permanent supportive housing and housing quality standards benefits and requirement
  • Develop a comprehensive follow-up program designed to assess client's housing status at three, six, and twelve months after placement in permanent housing

POSTION REQUIREMENTS: The Housing Coordinator should have a bachelor's degree in social work or related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful candidate should have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit management or community development. A background in housing assistance, budgeting or social services is preferred. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in MS Office are required. A criminal background check is required. The successful candidate will be a private contractor and not an employee.
